Covid update: India has reported 11,692 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the active caseload in the country to 66,170, as per the latest data released by the health ministry. With 28 more people succumbing to the virus in the same duration, the overall death count has mounted to 5,31,258. The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 4,42,72,256.
The active cases now comprise 0.15 percent of the total infections. The recovery rate in the country has been recorded at 98.67 percent, the ministry said. The case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent.
Meanwhile, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country under the nationwide vaccination drive, the ministry added.
Surge in daily Covid cases
The daily covid cases were on a decline from April 14 to April 18 when 11,109 and 7,633 cases were reported respectively. However, on April 19, the daily caseload surged to 1,542 cases. Meanwhile, 12,591 fresh cases were reported in the country on April 20.
Delhi Covid cases
Delhi on Thursday logged in 1,603 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 26.76 percent, along with three fatalities, as per the data shared by the city health department.
On Friday, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the national capital’s Covid cases have stabilised and are expected to taper down in the coming days.
He said most of the coronavirus-related death in Delhi were caused by comorbidities.
“In most of these cases, patients had serious illnesses for a long time and Covid was incidental. But, any death is unfortunate, and it should not happen,” he added.
In other Covdi-19 related updates, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was tested positive for the virus. The Union home minister is currently in quarantine with mild symptoms while a team of doctors have examined him and advised rest, a Ministry statement said.
