Recently a huge consignment of gold has been caught in Maharashtra. It is being told that the Custom Department has seized 62 kg of gold at the Mumbai airport. Its value has been estimated at Rs 32 crore. This seizure has been made in two separate cases. During this, seven people have also been arrested.
The Customs officials at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai achieved this success in separate operations. Two women are also among those arrested. It is being claimed that this is the highest amount of gold seized by Customs at Mumbai airport in a single day.
The accused had hidden gold biscuits in their belts
According to the information, in the first seizure, one kg of gold, which was hidden in the belt, was seized from four Indians returning from Tanzania. 53 kg of UAE-made gold bars, valued at Rs 28.17 crore, were recovered from them. Similarly, 8 kg gold worth Rs 3.88 crore was seized from three passengers coming from Dubai. All the three passengers were arrested, he said.
Travelers from Tanzania arrested
Officials told that during the search operation, 4 Indian passengers from Doha, Qatar reached here. On enquiry, it was found that they are coming from Tanzania. During the search of the said passengers, 53 kg gold was recovered. The accused had hidden gold biscuits in their belts. During interrogation, the four passengers have confessed that they were given this gold by an unknown Sudanese person at Doha airport. All four have been arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
In another case, based on intelligence, Mumbai Airport Customs officials have seized 8 kg of gold worth Rs 3.88 crore from three passengers (one male and two female). These people had come from Dubai by Vistara flight. He hid gold dust in the form of wax in his jeans. All the three passengers have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is going on in the matter.
