In some states of the south, once again the danger of cyclone is looming. The name of this cyclone rising from the Bay of Bengal is Mandous. Due to this, meteorological high alert has been issued in Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It is being said that due to this cyclone, along with heavy rains, stormy winds can also blow in all the three states. According to the Meteorological Department, a pressure area is forming in the Bay of Bengal. It is being built about 900 km southeast of Chennai. In view of this, a high alert has been issued in all the three states.
According to the information, NDRF teams, Army and Navy have been put on alert to deal with any untoward incident due to the cyclone and to help the people. The Meteorological Department has informed that the pressure area was in the southeast of the Bay of Bengal at 11.30 pm on 6 December. On Tuesday night, it was located 840 km east-southeast of Karaikal and 900 km southeast of Chennai.
The pressure area will turn into a cyclone by evening
The Meteorological Department has informed that by Wednesday evening the pressure area will turn into a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. After this it will hit the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. In a meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee (NCMC) chaired by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Tuesday, preparations related to a possible cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal were reviewed. The eastern coastal part of the country is expected to be affected by this cyclone.
NDRF has provided five teams for Tamil Nadu and three for Puducherry. According to the statement, the NCMC reviewed the preparedness of central ministries, agencies and state and union territory governments on a possible cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal. The Director General of the India Meteorological Department briefed the NCMC about the present weather condition and said that it is likely to move west-northwestwards and form a low pressure area over the southeast part of the Bay of Bengal by evening.
NDRF teams alert
According to the statement, after evening it is likely to move west-northwestwards and strengthen further and take the form of a cyclonic storm on Wednesday and reach the southwest Bay of Bengal. It is likely to reach North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh on 8 December. Further, it will continue to move west-northwestwards and move towards North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh during the next 48 hours.
The chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and senior officials of Puducherry briefed the NCMC about the measures taken to deal with the cyclonic storm and for the safety of the people. According to the statement, NDRF has provided five teams for Tamil Nadu and three teams for Puducherry as requested by the states. It has been said in the statement that a team has been kept ready for Andhra Pradesh as well and it will be made available as soon as there is a demand.
