Super typhoon Mocha struck multiple sections of Mizoram on Sunday, damaging at least 236 homes and eight refugee shelters, according to officials on Monday.
The strong winds on Sunday had an impact on a total of 5,749 persons in more than 50 localities, according to them.
There were no reports of fatalities, though. After strengthening into a Category-5 storm, the super cyclone Mocha made landfall in the Myanmar-Bangladesh shores on Sunday. It significantly damaged the southeast coastlines and forced the evacuation of more than five lakh people who lived in low-lying areas. According to the officials, out of the 236 houses, 127 had partial damage and 27 had complete destruction.
The Siaha area in southern Mizoram, which borders Myanmar, was most severely affected, with 101 homes, including two relief camps, suffering damage, according to reports.
Before passing across the Naf River, which separates Bangladesh and Myanmar, the super storm made landfall on the Teknaf shorelines.
