Cyclone Tauktae: 4 killed in Karnataka, Amit Shah to do meeting with Maharashtra CM

Along with the Corona pandemic, the threat of a cyclone that has hit India seems to be looming.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, four people died and 73 villages were destroyed in six districts of Karnataka due to the cyclone on Sunday.

Of these six districts, three are coastal and three are connected to the hilly region of the state in the Western Ghats.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said, “We are closely monitoring the cyclone situation in the coastal areas.I am in touch with the district in-charge ministers and DCs of the affected districts to ensure relief and rescue operations. “

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that in the meantime, the cyclone is “very likely” to move in a north-northwest direction. By late afternoon, its center will be in the north-northwest of Goa. The IMD said that under the impact of cyclone storms, thunderstorms, winds and rain would continue for almost the entire day. A statement was confirmed on Sunday confirming that the storm had intensified into a “very severe cyclonic storm”.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s office tweeted that Uddhav Thackeray would attend a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at 11:30 am to discuss Maharashtra’s preparedness for the cyclone.

Maharashtra is one of the five sensitive states that have been affected by the cyclone’s speed.According to the India Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm is likely to move as a “very severe cyclonic storm” and move north-northwestwards with the Gujarat coast crossing between Porbandar and Naliya around 18 May.

The Meteorological Department has recommended a complete suspension of fishing operations in Gujarat and other states on the west coast. It has also asked for regulation of rail and road traffic and has advised people to stay indoors.
