Prime Minister Modi visited West Bengal and Odisha on May 28, 2021, to take stock of the impact of Cyclone Yaas. He conducted an aerial in the affected parts of both states from 12.15 pm to 2.15 pm.
PM Modi first landed in Odisha’s Capital Bhubaneshwar, where he conducted a review meeting at 11 am. He will also survey the affected areas of Odisha’s Bhadrak, Balasore, and West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur.
The prime minister also chaired a review meeting with Odisha with chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Governor Ganeshi Lal, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, and Pratap Sarangi to study the impact of Cyclonic storm Yaas.

PM Modi also meet CM Mamata Banerjee:
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bengal’s Kalaikunda and submitted preliminary report on damages caused by Cyclone to PM Modi.
However, PM Modi and CM Mamata Banerjee T were to hold a review meeting to assess damage from Cyclone Yaas, but CM Banerjee skipped that, leaving after giving PM Modi a damage report.
Banerjee conducted an aerial survey of cyclone-hit areas in North 24 Parganas district, officials said. Along with Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Banerjee took stock of the situation in Hingalganj, Hasnabad, Sandeshkhali, Pinakha and other areas of the district, they said. “I have seen that most of the areas have been inundated. Houses and large tracts of agricultural fields are under water. A field survey will also be conducted,” Banerjee said.
The state has incurred a loss of Rs 20,000 crore due to the cyclone, Banerjee claimed. “We have sought a package of Rs 10,000 crore each for the redevelopment of Digha and the Sunderbans… It could well be that we might not get anything,” she said following an administrative meeting held in the tourist town of Digha. –PTI
However, Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar criticised Banerjee for skipping review meet with Modi.
PM expressed solidarity with those who suffered due to cyclone:
PM expressed his complete solidarity with all those who suffered due to cyclone & expressed deep sorrow to families who have lost their kin during the calamity.
Prime Minister Modi announced a financial aid of Rs 1,000 crore for states hit by Cyclone Yaas.
Out of the Rs 1,000 crore aid, Rs 500 crore would be given to Odisha for carrying out immediate relief work, said a statement issued by the Prime minister’s office.
The remaining amount would be disbursed to West Bengal and Jharkhand after assessing the damages, PMO added.
Strom caused massive damage:
Cyclone Yaas made hit Dhamra port in Odisha around 9 am on Wednesday . The storm caused massive damage to roads, houses and farmlands in both the states. In Bengal, one crore people were affected and three lakh houses and 134 embankments were damaged.
More than 21 lakh people were evacuated from low lying areas to shelter camps in the states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand.
Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar, state capitals of Bengal and Odisha, witnessed heavy rains and high winds. The storm claimed three lives in Odisha while one in West Bengal.
