Sushil Kumar, an Olympian, will stand trial for the death of junior wrestler Sagar Dhankar. Charges of murder, attempted murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, and other sections, including criminal conspiracy, were brought against Kumar and the other 17 parties involved in the crime by a Delhi court. Two fugitive accused have also been charged by the Delhi court.
The murder case began in 2021 when Kumar and Dhankar got into a nasty fight at the Chhatrasal Stadium, which tragically resulted in the latter’s death. The former junior national wrestling champion was killed, according to the Delhi Police’s charge sheet in the murder case, because Kumar sought to “assert supremacy” among younger wrestlers.

The wrestler Dhankar, 23, his friend Sonu, and three other people were allegedly beaten at the stadium on the night between May 4 and May 5 as a result of a property dispute by Kumar and his colleagues. Later, Dhankar passed away from his wounds.
According to a police inquiry, Kumar owned the Model Town apartment where the murdered 23-year-old wrestler had resided. The two wrestlers’ continuous argument over the apartment’s rent escalated into a deadly clash when Dhankar mistreated Kumar.
