Delhi: Elderly woman along with dogs thrown out of house despite chilling

Delhi: A stray dog carer in her 80s said that Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) personnel destroyed her jhuggi, shop, and temporary shelter for the animals.

Dog enthusiast Pratima Devi, 80, has been caring for stray canines in Delhi’s Saket neighbourhood for a number of years.

“MCD workers demolished my jhuggi and shop. They took away my belongings and also beat my dogs. I have at least 250–300 dogs. I am sitting under the tree now with my dogs,” Pratima Devi was cited by ANI as adding.

For as long as she lived, she vowed to care for the dogs

“Since morning, the dogs have not been fed. I came to Delhi in 1984. Since then, I have been taking care of dogs. I am 80 years old now. I do not have the physical strength to move around or look for work. I want to stay here and take care of these dogs for as long as I live,” Pratima Devi continued.

She claimed that MCD destroyed her temporary dog shelter earlier this year.

Pet dog attacks in Delhi NCR

Civic bodies in Delhi and its neighbouring cities, such as Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad, are taking measures to stop the rise in these attacks as a result of an increase in reports of attacks on locals by pet dogs. Many apartment buildings have issued severe fines for violating the restrictions and have cautioned residents not to feed stray dogs.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), taking note of the increase in such occurrences, has urged citizens to register their dogs and issued a warning that sanctions may be applied if they do not comply.
