Delhi floods: After receding for two consecutive days, the water level of Yamuna is again on the rise, causing water logging and traffic congestion in the city. On Sunday morning, the water level of the Yamuna was reported at 205.98 meters, above the danger level of 205.33 meters. As per Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level is expected to reach 205.75 metres by 10 PM tonight.
PM Modi takes stock of the situation
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena took to Twitter to reveal that Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him to take stock of the flood situation in Delhi as he returned from two official foreign visits.
“Immediately after arriving in Delhi, PM Modi spoke to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena about progress achieved in mitigation of a flood-like situation,” officials said.
IMD predicts more rain
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the national capital and its adjoining areas such as Noida, Gurguram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. The IMD predicted that there will be light to moderate rains in parts of Delhi and its adjoining areas, further increasing the risk of waterlogging in the already reeling under flooded national capital.
As per the weather department’s prediction, Delhi is expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday, with thunderstorms and lightning to follow. The maximum temperature is also expected to go down, bringing some respite from heat and humidity. “As the monsoon trough has come closer to Delhi, Delhi saw light to moderate rain on Saturday. This trough will move towards the foothills now, bringing heavy rain there,” said IMD scientist Kuldeep Srivastava.
