Independence Day 2024: In view of Independence Day celebrations in the city on August 15, capital has been placed on high security alert. It will also witness a grand flag hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort that would be led by PM Narendra Modi. There are, hence, elaborate traffic arrangements, heightened police patrolling for the smooth flow of traffic, and securing the event.

Main Traffic Divisions

Several roads around the Red Fort would remain closed for general traffic from 4 am to 10 am on August 15 in view of large crowds and facilitation of the ceremonial functions. All roads immediately adjacent to the Red Fort would be affected, ensuring security for this high-profile event.

The Delhi Police have restricted entry of heavy vehicles to avoid congestion in view of the traffic management. No heavy vehicles will enter Delhi from the borders from 10 pm on August 14 till 12 noon on August 15. This is to facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure that the whole program goes without any hassle.

On Independence Day, the national flag will be hoisted by Prime Minister Modi from the historic Red Fort. The Ceremony will also be attended by President Droupadi Murmu, the three chiefs of the armed forces, Union Ministers, and a large number of spectators.
