Late on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court issued an order directing social media platforms to “restrained forthwith” the further sharing, distributing, forwarding, or posting of an offensive film that has been making the rounds online since Tuesday.
The “sexually graphic” video, which has been making the rounds on social media since November 29, allegedly depicts a judge and a lady. The defendants, social media platforms, were ordered by a single-judge bench of Justice Yashwant Varma to make sure the video is not shared, circulated, forwarded, or uploaded any further.
It further ordered the Center to make sure that “any further procedures as are needed… are done and a compliance report submitted in these proceedings” through the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.

The woman sought issuance of an order “permanently restraining” social media platforms, their associates, sister concerns, agents, and others from publishing, republishing, and telecasting in any way. The HC granted her request. “A purported video dated March 9, 2022, which is stated to be circulating on various social media platforms as well as web portals since November 29, 2022”.
