A high court in Delhi has granted bail to the former Congress councillor Ishrat Jahan in a case that pertained to a larger conspiracy in the 2020 Dehi riots.
In January, there was an order on her bail plea was reserved.
Advocate Pradeep Teotia who appeared on behalf of Ishrat Jahan had aregued that there was no evidence to show her involvement in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case.
She was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for her alleged involvement in 2020 Delhi riots where more than 50 people lost their lives and close to 700 were injured.
“They have created a fear amongst people. She has been a lawyer. She was a young political person. She has a brilliant acumen. I was victorious from a ward where Muslims were less in number. Both the sects had given vote to her. No Muslim had even won from the said ward,” Ishrat Jahan’s counsel had argued in the court.
