Delhi MCD Elections: The House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been adjourned indefinitely. With which the mayor election could not be held once again. The house has been adjourned due to continuous uproar by BJP councillors. The ruckus between AAP and BJP workers went violent with the BJP leaders staging protest outside the house. This happened right after the oath of all the 250 elected councillors in the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections was completed.
The 250-member civic body of the capital was elected last year on December 4, and the results were announced on December 7. AAP had triumphed by taking 134 seats, while the governing BJP only managed to capture 104 wards.
Delhi to get first woman mayor
The candidates for the post of Mayor are Shelly Oberoi and Ashu Thakur (AAP) and Rekha Gupta (BJP). Oberoi is the main contender of AAP. The candidates for the post of deputy mayor are Aale Mohammad Iqbal and Jalaj Kumar (AAP) and Kamal Bagdi (BJP). The Congress had decided not to participate in the elections for mayor, deputy mayor and standing committee member.
BJP councillors protest
Amid the uproar over the MCD election, BJP demonstrated a protest outside the house. Many BJP leaders also claimed to have sustain harmful injuries. Meanwhile, AAP took to social media handles to reveal injuries sustained by their workers during the violent protests staged by BJP.
