Delhi-NCR Pollution: As part of anti-pollution measures under the final stage of the Graded Response Action Plan, a central panel on Thursday ordered authorities to ban the plying of four-wheeled diesel light motor vehicles in Delhi and neighbouring NCR districts as well as the entry of trucks into the capital. This is due to Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) being one notch short of falling into the “severe plus” category.
However, a directive from the Commission for Air Quality Management exempts BS-VI vehicles as well as those used for critical and emergency services (CAQM). According to the decree, the state government may decide whether to close schools, prohibit non-emergency business activity, and regulate automobile traffic on an odd-even basis.
Work from home policies may be decided by the central and state governments.
The decision stated, “Ban on plying of 4-wheeler diesel LMVs excluding BS-VI vehicles and vehicles utilised for essential/emergency services in NCT of Delhi and Districts of NCR bordering Delhi.”

A ban on diesel-powered medium and heavy freight vehicles in the capital was also issued by the CAQM. Exemptions apply to those who transport vital goods and render important services.
Other than electric and CNG trucks, entry into Delhi is prohibited as well. Those who are carrying necessities are excluded.
All non-clean flue-using companies in the area were also ordered to shut down by the CAQM, “even in locations without PNG infrastructure and supplies.”

On Wednesday, the 24-hour average AQI for Delhi was 450.
An AQI of 400 or more is deemed “severe,” and it can have an adverse effect on both healthy individuals and persons who already have medical conditions.
The citizens of Delhi stand to lose 10 years of life expectancy as a result of poor air pollution, according to the EPIC Air Quality Life Index (AQLI), which was published in June.
Given the rising pollution levels, the CAQM had instructed officials to impose a stop on construction and demolition work in Delhi-NCR on Saturday, with the exception of necessary projects and other limits under the third stage of the GRAP.
