Delhi-NCR Pollution: A central government body has put restrictions on the use of many diesel vehicles in the nation’s capital due to the city’s poor air quality. As part of the anti-pollution efforts, all light motor vehicles that operate on diesel and are not BS VI have been outlawed.
A fine of 20,000 will be assessed for violating the prohibition, which was suggested by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

Who are permitted to operate on roads?
According to the Delhi Transport Department’s decision, until the situation improves, only BS6-compliant cars and essential and emergency services will be permitted to operate on the road.
The Delhi Transport Department has also written to car owners whose vehicles fall within the category of “banned” vehicles.
“Since your vehicle falls inside the aforementioned categories, you are now instructed not to operate your registered vehicle in Delhi until Stage III or Stage IV of GRAP is implemented. The vehicle is subject to prosecution under section 194 of the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, which carries a fine of USD 20,000 “read the notice.
Such vehicles are still visible on Delhi roads despite the ban, and the city is still plagued by high traffic.
“Severe” air quality in the capital is choking inhabitants
For a third day running, Delhi’s air quality was classified as “severe.” As the national capital registered an AQI of 408, a dense blanket of pollution persisted. An AQI of 400 or more is considered “severe,” and it can have an adverse effect on both healthy persons and people who already have medical conditions.
Except for those transporting necessary goods or offering vital services, Delhi-registered diesel-powered medium and heavy cargo vehicles would not be permitted to operate in Delhi. All CNG and electric trucks, however, will be permitted entry into Delhi.
