Brij Bhushan Singh

A chargesheet was filed against the Wrestler Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who has been accused of sexual harassment of female grapplers. The chargesheet was filed within the June 15 deadline as promised by the government and agreed by the wrestlers who have been protesting against the WFI chief, who also happens to be a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader since April.

Heavy security outside Brij Bhushan’s residence

Heavy security was deployed outside Brij Bhushan Singh’s residences ahead of the filing of the chargesheet by Delhi Police fearing protestors’ agitation.  The chargesheet has been filed under sections 354, 354D, and 345A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for offenses of harassment and stalking. Over 180 people were questioned in connection with the case by Delhi police.

No witness from UP

Delhi Police recently recorded statements of the victims at the Wrestling Federation of India’s office. Two women wrestlers who had accused the WFI chief of sexual harassment were asked to produce evidence to prove the allegations. No one from Uttar Pradesh showed up to record a statement against the BJP leader. The cops also investigated Bhushan’s relatives, house help, and neighbors.

For detailed investigation, Delhi Police also wrote to wrestling federations of other countries to share input in the case. However, no country has so far sent any input.

Cancellation of POCSO case

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has filed a 550-page cancellation report in the POCSO case against Brij Bhushan which was filed after a minor’s father leveled allegations against the WFI chief. However, the minor’s father has now changed his statement and said that he was miffed with Bhushan after his daughter’s loss in a crucial match. The hearing for cancellation of the POCSO case will now take place on July 4.
