Independence Day 2023: India is preparing to celebrate its 77th Independence Day, set for Tuesday. To ensure smooth traffic flow in the capital city of Delhi, the Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory in light of a full dress rehearsal ceremony planned for Sunday, August 13th. The Delhi traffic police shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Considering the #IndependenceDay Full Dress Rehearsal on August 13, 2023, #DelhiTrafficPolice recommends commuters to steer clear of these routes and instead take alternative paths during the specified timings.”
Red Fort will witness road closures for the general public from 4 am to 11 am
According to the advisory, the vicinity around Red Fort will witness road closures for the general public from 4 am to 11 am on Sunday. A total of eight roads, namely Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S.P Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover, will be inaccessible to the public during this period, as indicated in the advisory.
Police have advised individuals to steer clear of the Inner Ring Road
Additionally, the police have advised individuals to steer clear of the Inner Ring Road – from IP College to Azadpur Chowk, the GTK Road – from Shakti Nagar to Azadpur Chowk, and the Chhatrasal Stadium Road.
The advisory notes, “Approximately 200 buses and 200 light vehicles are expected to participate, which might lead to some congestion around the Chhatrasal Stadium.”
It also advises that vehicles lacking parking permits for the rehearsal should avoid areas including C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J L Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass.
