Delhi Weather Update: Due to bad weather in the Delhi-NCR on Saturday, 17 planes headed for Delhi were rerouted. There had been a warning for a thunderstorm with light to moderate rain from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Sudden Thunderstorms Disrupt Air Traffic
However, between 3 and 4.30 pm, Delhi’s IGI Airport had disruptions from sudden thunderstorms and showers, resulting in up to 22 flights headed towards Delhi being diverted owing to inclement weather. Of these, eight were redirected to Lucknow, two to Chandigarh, one each to Varansi, Amritsar, and Ahmedabad, and nine were diverted to Jaipur.
IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara Among Diverted Flights
Information indicates that nine aircraft operated by IndiGo, eight by Air India, and three by Vistara were among the diverted planes. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall in a number of Delhi-NCR cities, including Bahadurgarh, Manesar, Gurugram, Noida, and Greater Noida.
