Delhi Weather Update: On Friday, dense fog continued to blanket Delhi-NCR as minimum temperatures fell in the region. According to the Safdarjung weather station, the national capital had extreme cold day conditions on Thursday, with temperatures plunging by 6 degrees Celsius. According to the Indian Railways, 22 trains from various regions of the country were delayed today due to foggy conditions.
Persistent Fog Across North India
Dense to extremely dense fog is expected to persist in various regions of north India, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan, for many hours during the night and morning until January 6. These circumstances are possible in isolated pockets on January 7, followed by severe fog in dispersed places over the next two days.
Cold Day Across North India
Many regions in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Rajasthan, and West Madhya Pradesh had cold day to severe cold day conditions on Thursday, as did isolated pockets in East Rajasthan and East Madhya Pradesh. On Thursday, the temperature in the national capital reached 12.5 degrees Celsius, which is 6.8 degrees lower than typical. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 2-4 degrees starting Sunday due to warm and wet southwesterly breezes, according to the weather service.
Rainfall Outlook for Next Week
Early next week, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, southern Haryana, and southern Uttar Pradesh are predicted to receive light to very light rainfall. The weather forecast for this week predicts a gradual increase in low temperatures of 2-3 degrees Celsius over East India in the first half of the week.
Anticipated Cold Wave
Cold wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan, with a minor chance in Uttar Pradesh, other parts of Rajasthan, and North Madhya Pradesh, mostly during the first half of the week.
