The people of Delhi-NCR are getting a double whammy of pollution along with the cold. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality index of Delhi is 430 today, which is in the ‘severe’ category.
Not only this, along with Delhi, all the areas of Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad are in the Red Zone. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cloudy sky with light rain in Delhi today. This is expected to reduce pollution.
However, Delhi’s air quality slightly improved from the ‘severe’ to ‘very poor category on Saturday morning with the city recording an overall AQI of 398.
As per the government agencies, and AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
The national capital has recorded 23 ‘severe’ air quality days in this year so far. It recorded 11 such days in November, the highest in the month since the Central Pollution Control Board started maintaining air quality data in 2015.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain on Sunday. The weather department also said the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle at 22 and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Sunday.
