The operational speed of the metro trains on the Airport Express Line (AEL) has been increased from 100 kmph to 110 kmph as of Thursday (June 22), according to a statement from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
After the Delhi Metro acquired the necessary approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), the decision to raise train speed on the 23 km long metro line linking New Delhi to Dwarka Sec-21 through IGI Airport was made.
DMRC stated during the announcement that travellers can now reach Airport (T-3) from New Delhi station in under 16 minutes thanks to the operational speed boost to 110 kilometres per hour.
With this achievement, Delhi Metro has achieved an amazing speed of 110 kmph, setting a new standard for metro systems in India. One of the nation’s fastest metro systems is the Airport Express Line (AEL).
On March 22, the Delhi Metro boosted the operating speed of metro trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 KMPH to 100 KMPH, the officials further stated. After receiving the required authorization, the speed of trains would be further increased from 110 KMPH to 120 KMPH, the officials noted.
DMRC has also been working nonstop to make travelling for passengers a seamless experience.
The Delhi Metro now offers cashless ticketing options via QR codes and WhatsApp-based ticketing, removing the need for visitors, particularly those travelling from abroad, to visit ticket booths and wait in queue.
“The combination of high-speed travel and hassle-free connectivity to the airport offers commuters a convenient and economical option,” the DMRC said.
