The Election Commission of India (ECI) has adhered to the orders of the Supreme Court of India by uploading the electoral bonds data on its website. The State Bank of India (SBI) handed over this crucial information to the election body, and in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive, the ECI promptly made it available on its website.
Supreme Court Directive and Compliance
In line with the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the State Bank of India (SBI) provided the electoral bonds data to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 12, 2024. The ECI, as per the orders, swiftly uploaded the data on its website.
Commitment to Disclosure and Transparency
The Election Commission of India reiterated its commitment to disclosure and transparency in its statement. The ECI has consistently advocated for transparency, as reflected in its stance during the proceedings of the Supreme Court and noted in the court’s order.
Publication Following Supreme Court Decision
The publication of the electoral bond data comes nearly a month after the Supreme Court deemed the 2018 scheme unconstitutional. The apex court directed the State Bank of India (SBI) to furnish all relevant details to the ECI, with a deadline for disclosure set for March 13.
Supreme Court’s Rejection of SBI’s Plea
Despite SBI’s plea for an extension until June 2024, the Supreme Court rejected the request and mandated the bank to provide the electoral bond data to the ECI by March 12.
