Empowering Agriculture in India: The AC&ABC Scheme’s Pioneering Initiative

the AC&ABC scheme

In a ground-breaking move to boost the agricultural landscape, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare introduced the AC&ABC scheme in 2002. Aiming to complement public extension services, this programme offers a blend of free and paid services tailored to the needs of local farmers. By opening doors to self-employment for agricultural graduates, this scheme is a step towards fortifying India’s farming ecosystem, with NABARD playing a crucial role as the subsidy channelizing agency.

The Launchpad for Agri-preneurs: Extensive Training and Funding Opportunities

Going beyond creating employment, the government is taking significant strides to nurture budding entrepreneurs in the agricultural field. Offering comprehensive start-up training to graduates specialising in Agriculture and its allied sectors, the scheme ensures a launchpad for fresh agri-business ideas. With the provision of special start-up loans, these ventures can take flight, invigorating India’s agri-business scene.

The Dual Pillars of the Scheme: Agri-Clinics and Agri-Business Centres

Agri-Clinics, integral to the scheme, serve as advisory hubs, equipping farmers with expert guidance on a myriad of aspects. From soil health and crop insurance to post-harvest technology, these clinics are an invaluable resource for farmers.

In tandem with the Agri-Clinics, Agri-Business Centres emerge as commercial ventures run by trained agriculture professionals. These centres provide an array of services, including the sale of inputs, custom hiring of farm equipment, and more, opening up income generation and entrepreneurship avenues.

An Array of Project Activities: A Broad Spectrum of Support

The AC&ABC scheme is more than just financial assistance. It offers a host of project activities, including extension consultancy services, pest control services, seed processing units, and more. In a bid to enhance the farming landscape, these services provide comprehensive support to all farming-related activities.

Open to applicants between 18 to 60 years, with specific academic qualifications, the AC&ABC scheme is a ray of hope for many aspiring agri-preneurs. As a strategic move towards bolstering the agricultural sector, this initiative is set to reap rich dividends for the farming community and the nation at large.
