Every Drug Trafficker Will Be Arrested Says Amit Shah In Lok Sabha

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday (December 21) gave a statement in the Lok Sabha on the issue of menace of drugs and terrorism. Amit Shah said that the problem of drugs in the country is a serious problem. He claimed that the countries promoting terrorism in India are using the profit from drugs to spread terror.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that our government has a policy of zero tolerance on the issue of drugs. We will leave no stone unturned for a drug free India. The countries which are promoting terrorism in our country are using the profits made from drugs for the same. Even the presence of this dirty money slowly hollows out our economy. The menace of drugs is a serious problem that is destroying generations.

Amit Shah said this on the danger of drugs

Amit Shah also alleged that states which do not help central agencies are enabling drug peddlers. He said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been empowered by the Parliament to investigate drug trafficking along with the NCB. Shah said that NCB can investigate in the whole country, if there is a need to conduct inter-state investigation, then NCB is ready to help each state. Even NIA can help the states.

The Union Home Minister further said that we have mapped the drug network in the states. No matter how big the criminal is, in the next two years such a situation will come that he will be behind the bars. The policy of our government is very clear, drug addicts are victims, we should be sensitive towards them and give a conducive environment to the victims for their rehabilitation, but people involved in drug trafficking should not be spared.

Amit Shah said that the Revenue Department, NCB and anti-narcotics agencies will have to work together against this menace. Borders are the responsibility of the central government, but when we give authority to BSF, it is said that the rights of the states are being taken away, now how will BSF work there? BSF seizes drugs, but does not have the right to register a case.

He said that those politicizing this issue are promoting drug trafficking. Agencies cannot work without rights, they have to be given rights. We should show faith in our agencies. Shah said that between 2006 and 2013, 22 lakh 41 thousand kg of drugs were seized, whereas from 2014 to 2022, 62 lakh 60 thousand drugs were seized. If we look at the price then drugs worth Rs 23 thousand crores were seized, whereas now drugs worth Rs 97 thousand crores have been caught and burnt.

“More than 1 lakh 60 thousand kg of drugs burnt”

Amit Shah said that on completion of 75 years of independence, we had taken a target that we will burn 75 thousand kg of drugs in 60 days, but I am happy to tell that we have burnt more than 1 lakh 60 thousand kg. Drugs have been burnt. He said that Interpol has been urged by India to create a system of real time information on nexus of narcotics and terrorism, this will increase coordination between different countries.
