Bilawal Bhutto on Kashmir: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto has pledged to further Kashmir’s cause in the event that he is elected prime minister in the upcoming presidential election in Pakistan. Indo-Pakistani War of 1965
August 5, 1965, marked the start of the month-long Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, which ended on September 23, 1965. Operation Gibraltar, launched by Pakistan with the intention of infiltrating forces into Jammu and Kashmir to spark an insurgency against Indian control, was the cause of the war. India launched a full-scale military assault on West Pakistan in retaliation.
What started off as a little dispute in Kashmir eventually turned into a full-scale warfare between the two nations. Although Pakistan achieved some success in the Rajasthan desert, its primary attempt to block India’s Jammu-Srinagar road link was unsuccessful. Indian tanks moved forward until Lahore was in sight. Since gaining their independence, India and Pakistan have engaged in a number of violent confrontations, most notably the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. The “Neighbourhood First Policy” of India aims to restore normal ties with Pakistan.
Kargil War
India and Pakistan fought each other for three months during the 1999 Kargil War. The Kargil area of Kashmir and the Line of Control (LOC) were the sites of the fighting. Approximately 1,500 Pakistani soldiers entered Indian territory at Kargil, Jammu & Kashmir, in May 1999, sparking the start of the conflict. The objective of the soldiers was to severe the link between Ladakh and Kashmir.
Early in May, the Indian troops discovered the Pakistani infiltration, which sparked fierce combat between the two forces. As part of Operation Vijay, the Indian Army drove out the Pakistani trespassers and retook Tiger Hill and other positions during the conflict.

Pakistani Perspective on the Necessity of Conflict with India
When the reporter went among his people and asked them that supporters of Pakistan and big leaders have been talking about liberating Kashmir for the last 76 years, then how much do you believe in this. Also, do you think war with India is necessary? To this a Pakistani man replied, “Do we have to go to the moon after fighting with India? Our own situation is not good. Pakistan has no future, so should we fight with our own weaknesses or with the neighboring country?”
The reporter further said that the government has no money but let’s talk about war with India, what is your opinion on this. On this the person replied, “They want war because the common people have to die. Nothing will happen to them.” On this matter, another person replied, “These slogans of liberating Kashmir are only for elections, they are not at all practical at the ground level. Our own accounts are empty, how will we fill theirs.”
