Sahitya Akademi Award in 2014
In 2014, Munawwar Rana, who penned numerous poetry on his mother, received the Sahitya Akademi Award. Controversial Tweet During Farmers’ Movement
Munawwar Rana was a good litterateur but due to his statements he was often embroiled in controversies. During the farmers’ movement, he had written a controversial couplet on Twitter. He had said that the Parliament House should be demolished and a farm should be built there. He had written, “Some people of this country will get food, demolish the Parliament and build some fields there… Now the fate of the farmers will change like this, burn the warehouses built by the Seths… I am speaking the truth in the court of lies. , blow the neck, burn me or alive.” After this tweet surfaced, he had to face a lot of opposition and criticism. After this he deleted the tweet.
Disapproval of Supreme Court’s Ram Temple Ruling
Munawwar Rana, who gained notoriety for his mother-focused poems, took issue with the Supreme Court’s ruling about the Ram temple. This is conceivable given that he had questioned former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi following the ruling. He had said that the Hindu side had been carried someplace in this dispute. His remarks brought him into disrepute.
Vow to Quit Uttar Pradesh
Munawwar Rana lived in Uttar Pradesh. He had declared that he would quit Uttar Pradesh (UP) if Yogi Adityanath were to win the chief ministership once more during the 2022 Assembly elections. Munawwar Rana’s comment became widely shared on social media after the BJP won the elections with a resounding majority and Yogi Adityanath was re-elected as chief minister.
The renowned poet Manjar Bhopali then sent an invitation to him to visit Madhya Pradesh and posted on social media, saying, “Munawwar Bhai, you have a home in Bhopal, but speak less here—speaking too much proved to be harmful for you.”
