Kangana Ranaut: Hailing from the tinsel town, this BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, has been controversy-prone with her remarks. Kangana Ranaut is a known loudmouth who targets the opposition time and again, but this time around, it has taken on the farmers’ movement that has come into the national conversation in the past couple of years.
Kangana Ranaut’s Controversial Claims
In a recent interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Ranaut made sweeping allegations against the farmers’ protests, claiming that the movement was marked by violent riots, including incidents of rape and murder. She suggested that the central government’s decision to withdraw the controversial agricultural bills was a response to the potential for even greater unrest. Further, Ranaut went on to say that had the BJP leadership not been strong, then it could have increased and Punjab could have been turned into a war-torn region like Bangladesh.
Ranaut’s comments continued her tirade against the opposition, vociferously supporting the stand taken by her party. She hailed the government for having astutely handled the situation, stating that the rioters were stunned, and further lives were saved after the bills were withdrawn.
Congress Responds to Ranaut’s Remarks
Moreover, Ranaut spoke about issues related to women’s safety and proved her concern towards the issue. She also spoke against item numbers in the show of Aamir Khan “Satyamev Jayate,” thereby showing her affinity for women empowerment.
The statements by Ranaut have strongly drawn protests from the Congress party. In fact, the Punjab Congress leader, Rajkumar Verka, demanded that the National Security Act has to be invoked against defaming the farmers and demanding an official response from the BJP. Verka has urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to file an FIR against Ranaut, arguing that her remarks are inflammatory and disrespecting the cause of farmers. With the continued debate, Kangana Ranaut’s comments display an increasing political divide and a contentious nature of the recent social movements of India.
