Farmers Demand Equitable Compensation and Development Amidst Protest at NTPC Facility

Greater Noida is home to a power producing facility owned by National Thermal Power Corporation. About 35 years ago, the government purchased property in 23 local towns in order to build this facility. Farmers claim that the compensation given at the time in lieu of acquiring land was unequal. Hence, compensation varied between some villages paying less and others paying more. Farmers have been requesting equitable compensation ever since. In addition to this, farmers have been calling for the development of these communities and jobs at NTPC. To achieve these requests, hundreds of farmers are currently protesting outside the NTPC thermal power plant on November 1.
