Farooq Abdullah to be chairperson & Mehbooba Mufti his deputy of People’s Alliance

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah was on Saturday chosen as the chairperson of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration in Jammu and Kashmir, PTI reported.

Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti will be his deputy.

Also, Veteran CPM leader M Y Tarigami was elected as the convenor while Lok Sabha member from South Kashmir Hasnain Masoodi would be the coordinator of the conglomerate known as Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD).

Sajjad Gani Lone of People’s Conference would be the spokesman for the amalgam.

Earlier on October 15, Farooq Abdullah announced the formation of People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, after an all-party meet at his residence in Jammu and Kashmir.

The alliance included the National Conference (NC), PDP, CPI(M), PC, JKPM & ANC.

With this, the political parties in Kashmir gave a formal shape to their alliance formed after the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir last year.

The announcement had come after an all-party meeting at Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar, that was attended by Omar Abdullah and Mufti, who was released after over a year in detention earlier this month.

Addressing the media, Abdullah said, “It’s not an anti-national Jamat, we aim to ensure that the rights of people of J&K and Ladakh are restored.”

He further said that attempts of dividing them in the name of religion will fail and said that “It’s not a religious fight.”
