Five members committee to probe Morbi bridge collapse, says Gujarat minister

The death toll in a suspension bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Morbi has risen to 141 till Monday morning. Rajkot Range Inspector General of Police Ashok Yadav has confirmed this to the media. Around nd 6.30 pm on Sunday evening in Morbi district, the cable bridge over the Machhu river was broken. More than 300 people were present on the bridge at the time of the accident. This bridge was 233 meters long and about a hundred years old.

The Gujarat government on Monday constituted a team of five members, comprising of civil servants and top police officials, to investigate the Morbi suspension bridge collapse.

Taking to Twitter, Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi wrote that the members in the probe panel include Secretary of Roads & Buildings Sandeep Vasava, Commissioner, Municipalities Administration Rajkumar Beniwal, IGP CID (Crime) Subhash Trivedi, Chief Engineer KM Patel and Dr Gopal Tank, head of department (Applied Mechanics) LD College of Engineering, Ahmedabad.

In the Morbi bridge accident case, an FIR has been registered against the cable bridge maintenance company. A case has been registered against the company under sections 304, 308 and 114 of IPC.

Rajkot District Collector Arun Mahesh Babu said that two teams of SDRF are also present on the spot. One team has come from Rajkot and the other team from Vadodara. Apart from this, teams of Army, Air Force, Fire Department and Municipal Corporation are also engaged in the rescue work.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has canceled his road show in Haryana’s Adampur in view of the accident in Gujarat’s Morbi. This road show was to be organized in view of the by-elections to be held in Adampur assembly seat.
