Delhi floods: The water level in Yamuna touched 208.46 metres, an all-time high, on Thursday morning with the flood water entering the main city. Now, people are evacuated from low-lying areas as flood-like situations loom in the national capital. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that all schools in the flooded areas will remain shut as the government carries out the rescue work.
CM Kejriwal’s appeal
The chief minister on Thursday urged people to not enter the flooded areas as the government is continuing the evacuation work. Meanwhile, the Delhi chief minister also wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah seeking the Centre’s intervention to slow the water flow from Haryana towards Delhi.
The Delhi CM also made an appeal to all volunteers, councillors, MLAs and all other people to visit relief camps and provide all possible support.
Water Level Reaches 208.46 Metres
Delhi is now on an extreme flood alert as water levels of the Yamuna River are at an all-time high of 208.46 metres. The water has entered submerged low-lying areas, further triggering flood-like situations in the national capital. The current water level is three meters above the danger mark.
Delhi Secretariat Flooded
Many parts of Delhi are witnessing massive flooding despite no fresh rainfall in the national capital. Delhi Secretariat where Arvind Kejriwal resides also flooded. The road from Rajghat to Delhi Secretariat was also underwater. Areas to avoid because of traffic diversion include Outer Ring Road.
