Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh passed away on Friday due to COVID-19. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia expressed grief over the demise of a former MLA from Rajouri Garden.
Offering his condolences, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the former MLA would be fondly remembered for his contributions to society. “Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of former Delhi MLA Sh Jarnail Singh ji. May God bless his soul,” Kejriwal tweeted.
Sisodia mentioned of Jarnial as someone who fought for justice for the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots. ”The news about the demise of Jarnail Singh, a former colleague in Delhi Assembly is extremely sad. A voice which fought for justice for the victims of 1984 genocide has left us,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.
According to family members of the former AAP MLA, Jarnail Singh had been undergoing intensive care at the super-specialty hospital for more than nine days. Jarnail Singh had resigned from his seat in the Delhi Assembly in 2017 to contest the Punjab Assembly elections. Jarnail Singh was a resident of Lajpat Nagar, Delhi. A formal journalist, he made headlines in 2009 for throwing shoes at then cabinet minister P Chidambaram during a press conference.
