Jitendra Narain, a senior IAS officer, and former chief secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was arrested for allegedly participating in a gangrape of a 21-year-old girl.
The bureaucrat was taken into custody by a special investigative team (SIT) after a court denied his request for anticipatory bail.
SC had earlier instructed him to go to the sessions court for bail.
According to sources, his family had been informed and the arrest process had already begun. An arrest memo had also reportedly been prepared. They stated that he would now appear in court for more inquiry.
The victim was first introduced to Rishi by hotel owner Rinku, who then drove her to Narain. The SIT is still attempting to apprehend another accused, RL Rishi, who is also missing.
