Chandrababu Naidu: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu, along with TDP MLA and former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and his son, Ganta Raviteja, were arrested on Saturday by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in relation to allegations of corruption in the skill development scam case.

Chandrababu Naidu speaks on the arrest

After being arrested, Chandrababu Naidu asserted that he had not engaged in any wrongdoing. He said, “I’m requesting both the people and the cadres, I haven’t done anything wrong today. But officials came last night and without even showing any proof, they arrested me. I asked them the basis for my arrest and demanded proof of concept. Now they are here with an FIR which doesn’t have any mention of my role in it, or any more details. This is very sad and wrong.”

An FIR in the case was filed in 2021, naming Chandrababu Naidu as accused number 1 in the Andhra Pradesh skill development scam case, which reportedly involves an amount exceeding Rs 371 crore. Allegedly, he did the scam under the guise of the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) with the aim of providing training to unemployed youth in the state.

Chandrababu Naidu arrested shortly after public address

Chandrababu Naidu’s legal representatives were given the FIR and additional information, and they requested prima facie evidence, highlighting that the former chief minister’s name was not explicitly mentioned in the FIR. In response, police officials assured the advocates that they would receive all pertinent details in the remand report within 24 hours.

An arrest warrant for Chandrababu Naidu was issued under Section 50 (1) (2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the early hours of Saturday. This occurred while the former chief minister was taking a break in his vanity van after delivering a public address in the city of Nandyala in Andhra Pradesh. It’s important to note that the sections imposed against Naidu are non-bailable.
