Velupillai Prabhakaran was the founder and chief of the LTTE, a terrorist organization that aimed to create an independent Tamil state in the north and east of Sri Lanka. The LTTE fought a 25-year-long war in Sri Lanka, seeking to establish a separate state for the Tamil people. Prabhakaran’s purported reappearance could raise concerns among Sri Lankan authorities, given his controversial past and the violent tactics employed by the LTTE during the civil war.
