INDIA Alliance: The I.N.D.I.A. coalition meeting’s second day concluded with Opposition leaders issuing a joint statement expressing their intent to jointly participate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, to the extent feasible. They also disclosed plans to initiate the process of seat-sharing among the 28 coalition members in various states, emphasising a cooperative approach based on compromise and mutual understanding.
Key objectives from the I.N.D.I.A meet in Mumbai
The INDIA Alliance member parties plan to conduct public rallies across the country addressing various issues, with the overarching campaign theme being “Judega Bharat, Jiteega India.”
The key panel of the coalition includes prominent leaders such as K C Venugopal from Congress, Sharad Pawar from NCP, M K Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Tejashwi Yadav from RJD, Abhishek Banerjee from TMC, Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena, Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghav Chadha from AAP, Javed Ali Khan from Samajwadi Party, Lallan Singh from JDU, D Raja from CPI, Omar Abdullah from National Conference, and Mehbooba Mufti from PDP.
The alliance has established four sub-groups, each with distinct responsibilities, while Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge has called on leaders to outline key points to create a shared agenda for the coalition. Additionally, Kharge criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing them of engaging in vindictive politics, and raised questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the alleged stock manipulation by the Adani Group.
Seat-Sharing arrangement to be done by 30th September
The coalition has decided to promptly begin the process of seat-sharing arrangements with a cooperative approach of compromise and mutual understanding, as stated in the resolution adopted during the meeting. Sources indicate that the seat-sharing agreements are anticipated to be finalised by September 30.
The ongoing meeting of the Opposition bloc is taking place at Mumbai’s Hotel Grand Hyatt, aimed at formalizing the coalition’s structure and devising their campaign strategy for the upcoming general elections. As part of their plans, the coalition intends to designate a spokesperson and establish a dedicated secretariat to facilitate effective coordination among alliance members.
