Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: The big day is approaching. Each year, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great pomp and show across the country. This day commemorates Lord Ganesha’s journey from Kailash Parvat to the earth with his mother Goddess Parvati. Massive idols of Lord Ganesha are worshipped on this day, followed by musical and dance celebrations. Lord Ganesha devotees dress up in new clothes and fast on this day. They also worship the Lord and eat delicious sweet dishes.
Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed on August 31 this year. As we prepare to celebrate the special day, let us take a look at Lord Ganesha’s eight avatars and what they represent:

Vakratunda: Lord Ganesha’s first avatar, Vakratunda is known for defeating the demon Matsara and restoring the lost glory of the three worlds and the gods’ kingdoms.
Ekdanta: Eka represents maya, while danta represents the truth. Lord Ganesha’s second avatar, Ekadanta, represents the ultimate truth.
Mahodara: Mahodara is Lord Ganesha’s third avatar, and he represents forgiveness for all sins. According to legend, Mahodara confronted the demon of delusions, Mohasura, and forgave him for all his sins before returning him to Paatal Lok.
Gajanana: Gajanana is the elephant-faced avatar. Lord Ganesha took on this avatar to fight greed and cleanse the world of sins.

Lambodara: Lord Ganesha assumed the form of Lambodara to battle Krodhasura, the demon of rage. This Ganesha avatar represents the release of anger from the world.
Vikata: Lord Ganesha’s avatar appeared after many prayers from all the gods and goddesses who were troubled by Kamsura, the demon of desire born from Lord Vishnu’s seeds.
Vighnaraj: One of Lord Ganesha’s most popular avatars, Vighnaraj is recognised as the remover of all barriers. In this avatar, Lord Ganesha is said to guide us to prosperous paths.
Dhumravana: Lord Ganesha’s avatar defeated the demon of self-infatuation, Ahamkarasur.
