Ganesh Chaturthi 2023: The Ganesh Chaturthi festival carries special importance in Mumbai, known for its grand ‘pandals’ displaying massive Ganesha idols across the city. These festivities draw massive crowds and processions, demanding effective traffic control. In light of this, the Mumbai Traffic Police has released guidelines to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during the celebrations. During this period, restrictions will be imposed on heavy vehicles accessing the city’s streets, minimizing the risk of blockages and traffic jams.
Authorities issue advisory
These measures aim to ensure order and safety, given the simultaneous approach of two significant celebrations – Anant Chaturdashi and Eid-e-Milad. According to the advisory, heavy vehicle entry into Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane will be restricted for two days on both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune highway.
Similar restrictions apply to heavy vehicle movement on the Mumbai-Goa highway. Authorities in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have been instructed to prevent heavy vehicles from heading towards Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Mumbai. These restrictions will be enforced from 11 am on Thursday, September 28, until 1 am on Friday, September 29, affecting all vehicles weighing 16 tonnes or more.
Nevertheless, specific essential vehicles, including those carrying vegetables, milk, bakery items, drinking water, petrol, diesel, kerosene, ambulances, government and semi-government vehicles, and school buses, will be exempt from these restrictions.
