India Germany news: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in New Delhi for a two-day visit with the aim of expanding overall bilateral ties and discussing the Ukraine conflict. The German leader was received by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary at the airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Scholz for a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan forecourt, where he met with Modi and other ministers.
Focus on boosting bilateral ties in trade, investment, clean energy, and defence
According to a tweet by the Ministry of External Affairs, “Chancellor Scholz’s visit is an opportunity to further deepen the multifaceted India-Germany strategic partnership.” This is Scholz’s first visit to India since becoming the German chancellor in December 2021, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the situation in the Indo-Pacific region are expected to be discussed.

PM Modi and Scholz will hold talks on boosting bilateral ties in the areas of trade and investment, new technologies, clean energy, and defence. The two leaders are also expected to discuss the consequences of the Ukraine conflict. During a joint press meeting at Hyderabad House in Delhi, PM Modi emphasized that the India-Germany relationship is based on deep understanding and a history of trade exchange. He further noted that Germany is India’s largest trading partner in Europe and an important source of investment in India.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated in a statement that the focus of the talks will be on strengthening bilateral cooperation, building on the green and sustainable development partnership and economic partnership, and forging closer ties in defence. This is the fourth time the two leaders have met within a year, highlighting their mutual commitment to the growth of the Indo-German partnership.
