Ghaziabad RapidX Launch: This morning, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut train segment of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On October 21 (Saturday), the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor’s 17-kilometer priority section is expected to open to traffic.
India’s First Semi-High-Speed Regional Rail Service
RRTS trains were named “RAPIDX” by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) in April. The first semi-high-speed regional rail service project in India is being carried out by NCRTC. With a 180 kmph design speed, the RRTS is a brand-new, high-frequency, semi-high-speed rail-based commuter transport system.
Prime Minister’s Vision for Enhanced Connectivity
Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot are the five stations that make up the priority part of the RRTS Corridor between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot. Prime Minister Modi lay the foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor on March 8, 2019. The RRTS project is being built in accordance with his goal to improve regional connections in the nation through the creation of new, world-class transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had stated in a statement on Wednesday.
PMO’s Vision for High-Speed Rail Every 15 Minutes
According to the PMO, this “transformational” regional development programme is intended to offer high-speed rail for interstate travel every 15 minutes, with the option to increase frequency to every five minutes based on demand. It was stated that eight RRTS corridors have been designated for development in the National Capital Region; three of these corridors—Delhi Ghaziabad Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar, and Delhi-Panipat—have been given priority for implementation in Phase I.
Delhi to Meerut in Under an Hour
The PMO had stated that the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, which is being created at a cost of more than Rs 30,000 crore, will connect Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour by passing via the urban hubs of Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.
