Ghaziabad Police has proposed installing CCTV cameras on NH 9 in order to track the criminals. In this regard, recently Ghaziabad Police Commissioner met the officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and shared his proposal on setting up CCTV cameras on National Highway 9 (NH9).

Ghaziabad traffic police officers informed that during the meeting the consensus was reached on the additional cameras by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) . It may be noted that the Delhi – Meerut Expressway (DME) lanes of the highway already has the presence of cameras , while the proposed ones will cover the remaining lanes of NH 9.3

Cameras will track criminals, car robbers, chain snatchers who flee to neighboring districts
The police has proposed installation of 36 video incident detection system (VIDS) cameras, 22 automatic number plate readers (ANPR’s) and pan-tilt room (PTZ) cameras at Rassolpur toll plaza. These cameras have been proposed under zone 2 of the DME from Dasna to UP Gate and will be installed at 29 identified points.
Cameras will be helpful in tracking criminals, chain snatchers and car robbers who flee to nearby districts. The cameras will also be installed at nine entry/exit points and underpass.
At present the police has been penalizing erring drivers only for speed limit violation and once the cameras are installed , violations such as driving without seat belts or helmets and triple riding will be detected and penalized with the help of automatic online challans. The NHAI officials have agreed to install the cameras within two months.
Sources in NHAI have confirmed that DME at present has cemeras that cover every 500 meters of the expressway from UP Gate. Also there are six ANPR’s installed at six entry/exit points of the DME.
