Gujarat: The Sujalam Suflam Abhiyan, a campaign by the Gujarat government to save water, will now begin in February 2023 rather than the previously anticipated March-April. According to an official announcement citing the government spokesperson and senior minister Rushikesh Patel, a decision in this regard was made on Wednesday during the weekly Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The government started the programme in May 2018, and so far, five of its legs have been finished.
According to the press release, the government has completed 74,510 water conservation projects across the state as part of the programme, increasing the state’s capacity for conservation by 86,199 lakh cubic feet.

According to the project, 26,981 village ponds have been deepened in total. 17,812 projects were finished in 2022, totaling 20.81 lakh human days of labour.
According to the press release, the campaign’s goals are to increase agricultural production, reinforce irrigation systems, raise groundwater levels, and reduce water waste.
The Cabinet also resolved to test the New Education Policy of the Center by giving Class 6–8 pupils 10 bag-free days over the course of two phases starting next month.
First, during the first week of January, 10 bag-free days will be observed in 491 higher primary schools. The programme will be implemented in 1,009 higher primary schools as part of the second phase in the second half of the month.

Rs 2 crore have been alloted for the programme
According to the project, students will have hands-on experience with numerous professions during those 10 days by visiting banks, businesses, universities, and training facilities for the industrial workforce. According to a formal announcement, Rs 2 crore have been alloted for the programme, and Rs 15,000 would be given to each institution.
The Shramik Annapurana Yojana will be expanded to 28 more kadia nakas (locations where labourers congregate in quest of job), according to another decision made at the meeting, the release stated. The initiative would be running at 51 kadia nakas in the state after the expansion. The programme offers nutritious food to families of construction workers at a reduced cost of Rs 5 per person.
