Gujarat HC raps govt over compensation to kin of Morbi tragedy victims

The Gujarat High Court has expressed displeasure over the compensation given to the families of those killed in the Morbi bridge accident. The court said in clear words that very little compensation has been given to the families of those killed in the bridge accident. The court said that the compensation should be reasonable. Also commenting on this issue, said that the need of the hour is that the compensation amount should be adequate.

More than 130 people had died in the Morbi bridge accident. In view of the seriousness of the matter, orders were given for a quick investigation. In the investigation, it was found that food was supplied in the name of maintenance of the bridge. Some people were also arrested in this case. At the same time, compensation was also announced by the state government.

State government asked to file an affidavit

Describing the amount received as compensation as insufficient, an application was filed in the High Court. While hearing this matter, the Gujarat High Court has made strong remarks on the state government. The court said that the compensation amount given to the relatives of the deceased should be reasonable and realistic.

Along with this, during the hearing, the court also remarked that the demand of the present time is that the compensation should be adequate. Court said that the compensation given to the seriously injured people in the accident is very less. An angry High Court has asked the state government to file an affidavit regarding the detailed compensation policy.

The High Court has also ordered the government to develop such a mechanism, so that such incidents can be prevented in future. The court said that the information of the families of the deceased should also be made public. More than 130 people lost their lives in the accident. This accident happened due to breaking of cable wire. The maintenance company of the bridge was held responsible for the accident. The Gujarat High Court has also ordered the state government to conduct a survey of all the bridges.

The High Court said that the government should ensure that all the bridges are in perfect condition. Along with this, a list of all the bridges has also been sought, in which it should be mentioned that how many of them are dilapidated and how many are in good condition. After the Morbi accident, such news has come out from different regions and states of the country, in which the dilapidated bridge has become public.
