The Supreme Court today granted bail to an accused in the sensational 2017 murder case in which a seven-year-old was brutally murdered by a 16-year-old student. Both were students of Ryan International School in Gurgaon. Earlier, the Juvenile Justice Board had clarified that the accused student should be tried as an adult and not as a juvenile. Noting that the accused is in custody for the last five years, the apex court granted bail.
At that time this class 11 student was accused of killing Pradyuman Thakur, a class two student of Ryan School. He had committed this murder to postpone the examination and parent-teacher meeting. Seven-year-old student Pradyumna was found lying in a pool of blood outside the washroom of the school on September 8, 2017, after a senior student slit his throat. A school bus conductor was immediately arrested by the Gurgaon Police for his murder. However, a month later, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested the accused student, saying that he had confessed to killing Pradyuman.
Pradyumna’s father had alleged that he was tortured and confessed. He said that his son was brutally beaten up by hanging him upside down. The medical examination of the accused found that he did not have any mental illness. After this a judge had said that the juvenile student in violation of the law is mentally capable of committing the crime. The hearing of the case is scheduled to begin from October 31.
