According to reports, Rinku Saini, who was held in custody by the Rajasthan Police in connection with the alleged murder and kidnapping of two Muslim men named Nasir, 25, and Junaid alias Juna, 35, admitted to the investigators that they were taken to the Haryana Police by cow vigilantes but that the officers there refused to take them into custody because of their serious physical conditions following severe beatings.
According to a Rajasthan Police officer, Saini’s claim would be verified. Saini’s claim has not received a response from the Haryana Police.
While the two were initially brought to the Firozpur Jhirka police station in Haryana, Saini’s account is consistent with the claim made by Mohammad Jabir, a relative of the dead, that the police asked the “gau rakshaks” to go.
“Saini has claimed during interrogation that Junaid and Nasir were taken to Haryana Police. The claim will be verified,” inspector general of police of Bharatpur range Gaurav Srivastava told reporters.
Saini, a 32-year-old taxi driver from Firozpur Jhirka in Haryana’s Nuh district, was placed on Saturday in a five-day police remand.
According to the Rajasthan police, the crime was committed as a result of cow vigilantism, and all of the suspects are from Haryana.
“Rinku has confirmed some names from the accused named by the victim’s family in the FIR and also other new names, but not of Monu,” an official told HT.
“We are trying to verify his claims and are conducting an investigation,” said the officer.
