Heatwave: Mumbai, Konkan, and Kutch are just a few of the Indian cities that are currently experiencing scorching conditions. While two of its meteorological stations in Mumbai registered temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier declared a heatwave in the city. Parts of the Kutch and Konkan areas received the first heatwave warning of the year from the weather service. Also, it issued a heatwave warning for Goa, causing schools there to close last week before midday.
Heat indices of more than 54 degrees Celsius
With temperatures reaching previously unheard-of heights, Kerala is currently experiencing extreme heat. According to a study published by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), some sections of the southern state have seen heat indices of more than 54 degrees Celsius. Heatstroke is more likely as a result, posing a serious health danger. To avoid heat-related illnesses and protect their safety during this time, residents must act immediately.

Precautions to take
- During the hottest hours of the day, often from 12 to 4 pm, spend as much time indoors as you can.
- To stay hydrated, consume plenty of liquids, especially water and fresh fruit juices.
- To allow air to circulate and cool your body, dress comfortably in bright colours and loose fits.
- To shield your skin from the sun’s damaging rays, use sunscreen with a high SPF.
- Avoid heavy, spicy, and greasy foods that can make you feel hotter by eating light meals instead.
