As a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal deepens into a potential cyclone by October 23 evening, heavy rain and wind gust up to 100 kmph are predicted to reach West Bengal’s coastal regions, dampening Kali Puja and Diwali celebrations in many portions of the State.
The weather system, which was 700 kilometers south of Sagar Island early on October 23 and is currently traveling northwest, is extremely likely to recurve in a northeasterly direction and reach the Bangladeshi coast between Tinkona Island and Sandwip early on October 24, according to the IMD.
According to a bulletin from the Met Department, it is very likely to bring heavy to very heavy rain in the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas, as well as heavy rainfall in East and West Midnapore on October 24. On October 24 and 25, Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly are likely to experience moderate rain.

On October 25, there will be heavy rain in Nadia, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas.
The cyclone will pass parallel to the coast of Odisha on Monday and Tuesday, and the state administration has indicated it has made preparations for potentially heavy rain. For the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri, the IMD has issued a “yellow” warning for heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) at one or two locations through Monday morning.
Additionally, it issued a warning for a spot or spots of heavy rain between Monday morning and Tuesday early across Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.
