Heavy Rainfall alert issued in state
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted substantial to extremely heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh between August 22 and 24, and consequently, an Orange alert has been issued. Additionally, a Yellow alert has been communicated for intense rainfall on August 21 in the state. The meteorological agency has also cautioned about a moderate risk of flash floods in the catchment regions of Mandi and Chambal districts. This wet weather pattern is expected to persist until August 26.
The IMD has warned that the substantial rainfall in the state could trigger landslides, flash floods, elevated water levels in rivers and drains, and pose a threat to standing crops, fruit plants, and young seedlings. Recent data from the state government has revealed that the financial loss in Himachal has mounted to ₹8014.61 crore since June 24. Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced on Sunday that the central government has allocated ₹662 crore for Himachal Pradesh in response to the situation.
