Ahead of the Ugadi festival in Karnataka, a Hindu organization has demanded a ban on halal meat in the state. In a memorandum submitted by the organization to the Bengaluru District Magistrate in this regard, not giving halal certificates to meat shops, banning halal meat.
Last year too there was a controversy over Halal vs Jhatka meat
In the month of August last year, there was a dispute in Karnataka regarding Halal vs Jhatka meat. Actually, there are differences in preparing meat in both the ways. Halal meat is preferred by the Muslim community. However, some say that it is the more torturous method. Hindu Janajagruti Vaidik has also asked the authorities to promote Jhatka meat shops in every nook and corner of the state.
Ugadi festival is celebrated with great pomp on the first day of Chaitra Navratri in Karnataka. Ugadi festival is also called Gudi Padwa in some parts of India. This festival will be celebrated on 22 March. It is usually celebrated on the first day of Chaitra Navratri, which falls in the first month of the Hindu lunar calendar and is known as Chaitra. Hence, Ugadi is celebrated as the Hindu New Year. At the same time, the holy fast of Muslims is also starting on this day.
Slaughterhouses and butchers remained closed even on the occasion of Janmashtami and Ram Navami.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is known to have issued orders banning the sale of meat during several festivals and holidays in Bengaluru. Last year, slaughterhouses and butcher shops remained closed on the occasion of Janmashtami and Ram Navami.
