Hyderabad student assaulted: Some students of a prominent college in Hyderabad beat up another student in his hostel room for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prophet Mohammad. A video of the assault on the student went viral causing outrage on the social media. Police booked at least 10 students for murder attempt. Though the incident occurred on November 1, police said they received a complaint on November 11.

Case filed
A case was registered at Shankarpally station under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (murder attempt), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 450 (trespass to commit an offence), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation), read with section 149 and sections 4(I), (II), and (III) of the Prohibition of Ragging Act of 2011 against 10 students. They are all students of IBS College. The case was filed on the complaint from victim Himank Bansal, a first-semester student of the college.
Police said, “The complainant seems to have insulted a girl, who is his friend, on Instagram. She was upset and told her friends, who ganged up and assaulted him,” a senior officer said.
According to the police, a complaint was filed on November 11 by the student, that said, “On November 1, I was physically and sexually harassed by 15-20 individuals on college campus premises in my allotted hostel room.

Himank in his complaint sad he was pushed and assaulted by the students who punched him in the face, slapped him, kicked him in the abdominal areas, touched his genitals and force him to consume some chemicals and powders.
Brutal assault
Bansal said that a student even attempted to put his genitals into his mouth. “They further tried to tear my clothes, got me naked and kept beating me one after the other. They shouted ‘beat him till he dies’,” he stated in his complaint.
Videos and photos of the attack went viral and were widely shared among college students. In his complaint, Himank further said that he had bruises all over his face and his eye sockets and nose were swollen.
As per the police, he was also threatened by the students.
Himank in his complaint said he had made a remark against the Prophet during a conversation with a girl who made the chat public.
